Setup Guide
-
Download the App
Search for '青桔骑行' (Qingju) on the App Store or Android stores. Qingju is DiDi's bike-sharing brand, so the DiDi app can also unlock its bikes.
-
Register with a Mainland Number
SMS verification is required, and foreign numbers are not accepted. If you only have an international number, ask a friend in China to register for you.
-
Link Payment
Add Alipay or WeChat Pay inside the app — foreign cards work once linked to those wallets. Qingju is deposit-free (免押金).
-
Find a Bike
Allow location access and bikes appear on the map. In dense city centres a bike is usually within 100 m.
-
Scan to Unlock
Scan the QR code on the handlebar or rear wheel. The lock clicks open and the timer starts.
-
Park in a Designated Zone & End
China requires parking inside marked zones (P markers / 停车点 on the map). Leaving one triggers a repositioning fee. Lock the bike to finish — payment auto-deducts.

Real-world tips from users in China
- You often cannot end your trip outside a marked parking zone — the app charges a repositioning fee (调度费) or keeps the timer running.
- A 30-minute ride costs roughly ¥1.5–2.5, far cheaper than a taxi for the last mile.
- Qingju also runs electric-assisted bikes (共享电单车) in smaller cities, with fixed battery-swap stations.
- Report broken bikes in-app (故障上报) for a free ride or refund — older bikes with faded QR codes are common.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can foreigners rent a Qingju bike in China?
Qingju has no English UI, and registration needs a mainland Chinese phone number. Without a local number, signing up is difficult, so plan accordingly or use an alternative like Alipay's bike mini-programs.
Do I need a Chinese phone number for Qingju?
Yes. Registration for Qingju requires a mainland Chinese phone number. The app also has no English UI, which adds another barrier for foreign travelers trying to rent the blue bikes.
Is Qingju the biggest shared bike in China?
Yes. Qingju, operated by DiDi, runs the biggest shared bike fleet in China. However, it has no English UI and requires a mainland Chinese phone number to register.
Does Qingju have an English version of the app?
No. The guide notes that Qingju has no English UI. Registration also requires a mainland Chinese phone number, which together make it hard for non-Chinese speakers and short-term visitors to use.
