Frequently Asked Questions
Can foreigners use Taobao in China?
Yes, Taobao is China's largest online marketplace and is available to foreign shoppers. Follow the guide steps to install and register. A Chinese payment method is needed to complete purchases.
Do I need a Chinese phone number for Taobao?
A Chinese mobile number is recommended for registration and order updates. Some foreign numbers may receive verification codes, but a Chinese SIM is more reliable for ongoing use.
Is Taobao in English?
The Taobao app interface is in Chinese. Product listings, seller communications, and reviews are also in Chinese. Using a translation tool alongside Taobao helps navigate the marketplace effectively.
Can I pay on Taobao without a Chinese bank card?
Payment requires a Chinese payment method like Alipay. Alipay's tourist version supports some foreign cards, but linking a Chinese bank card to Alipay provides the smoothest checkout experience.
