Go2China Map Guide: Navigation & Offline Maps for China (2026)

Google Maps is blocked in China — and even with a VPN, its map data is deliberately offset, so pins land in the wrong location. This go2china map guide covers what actually works: Amap (the most accurate navigation app in China), how to get offline maps before you lose signal, and how to get around without a local SIM.

Download offline maps before you arrive. Once you're behind the Great Firewall, fixing app glitches or downloading map tiles is a nightmare. Get everything working at home.

Key Things to Know

Amap is the standard. It has the most accurate Chinese road and POI data, English interface, real-time traffic, and offline map downloads. Download city maps before you go — a city is typically 50–150 MB.

Apple Maps works better than Google Maps in China — it uses local map data rather than Google's offset coordinates. But Amap is still more accurate for transit and street-level navigation.

DiDi + Amap together covers almost every transport need: DiDi for taxis and rideshare, Amap for walking, subway, and bus directions.
