Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Douyin in China as a foreigner?
Douyin is the domestic Chinese version of TikTok and is available inside mainland China. Follow the guide steps to install and register with your phone number. The international TikTok app does not work in China.
Do I need a Chinese phone number for Douyin?
Yes, registration requires a mobile number. A Chinese SIM is the most reliable option. Some foreign numbers may work for verification, but a Chinese number ensures full access to features.
Is Douyin different from TikTok I already have?
Yes. Douyin is a separate app from international TikTok. Content, accounts, and features are not shared between the two platforms, so you need to install Douyin separately in China.
Can I pay inside Douyin without a Chinese bank card?
Payment features typically require linking a Chinese payment method such as WeChat Pay or Alipay. Without a linked Chinese payment account, you can watch and post content but cannot complete in-app purchases.
